Existensialism Notes
By SteveFrom Gerald Corey’s Theory and Practice of Group Counseling: The existential tradition seeks a balance between recognizing the limits and tragic dimensions of human existence on one hand and the possibilities and opportunities forĀ humans to transcend those limits to achieve a vital existence on the other hand.
Key components of the theory:
- challenge individuals to take responsibility for their life’s direction
- help individuals remain the present
- help individuals increase awareness as to how they block themselves from a more fulfilling existence
- encourage individuals to “expand their horizons” with respect to their daily existence
